Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Test for Work

Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to recognise and understand emotions and use them in a productive manner. This ability is especially important in the workplace where even modest displays of emotion if misread can derail a project or undermine a business relationship.

Research indicates that emotional intelligence can influence job performance, leadership ability, commitment and other key organisational behaviours. As such the emotional intelligence test is commonly used to assess candidates for roles that involve a large amount of contact with others.

The 5 Components of Emotional Intelligence

The C-me emotional intelligence (EQ) test for work measures emotional intelligence (often referred to as emotional quotient or EQ) across the 5 generally accepted components of the EQ spectrum.

  • Self-awareness: Self-awareness includes being aware of one's own feelings, tempering reactions and responses and the ability to stay calm and centred no matter what is going on.
  • Self-regulation: Emotions happen. They're part of being human. In the workplace, it's important that people are able to effectively manage (regulate) their feelings.
  • Empathy: Empathy is one of the keys to a high emotional intelligence quotient. Empathy enables a person to tune into another person's situation and understand what they are feeling.
  • Motivation: Motivation as it relates to emotional intelligence is vital because it drives individuals to constantly seek positive outcomes.
  • Social skills: Those with a high emotional quotient typically have well-developed social skills. Solid social skills are essential in the workplace.

Some Background on C-me Colour Profiling

Prior to C-me, our founders spent many years coaching and assessing individuals, organisations and teams in a variety of industries. What they learned was that personality-based assessment tools often came up short in terms of providing reliable insight regarding why people act the way they do.

Determined to come up with a better, more accurate assessment tool they put their noses to the grindstone and C-me was the result. C-me assesses individuals based not on their personality but rather their behaviour. This provides a much more well-rounded picture of a person and their previously mysterious motivations and actions.

The C-me Colour Profiling system has been adopted by many titans of the UK business world including Oracle, HSBC Insurance, Virgin Active, the BBC, the NHS and more.

What our clients say about us

quote-ico

C-me has been a really useful tool; using them to not only develop our own self-awareness, but also learn how to communicate better as a team has been really invaluable.

Gill White Service Manager, NHS Bristol

The impact C-me profiles have on teams and the organisation as a whole has been fascinating and refreshing. Individuals have shown more empathy, inclusivity and understanding of their colleagues, creating a happier and more productive culture. I would feel confident in recommending C-me as it creates a shared language for discussing behaviour and difference.

Leigh-Anne Colman Global Learning and Development Lead, Oracle Data Cloud

WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation began using C-me as a tool for improving communication across our international senior leadership team. It helped us appreciate each other’s communication preferences better, and understand and avoid previous areas of misunderstanding. We have now started to roll C-me out across the UK organisation, putting it into our Onboarding process to help teams communication effectively and appreciate each other’s contribution.

Sian Davies-Hamilton, Director of Human Resources, WDC

While difficult to quantify in %'s, I notice a greater awareness of why conflict can happen and what team members might need to work effectively once employees understand the colour preferences. Participants on the course state that they are more measured in their responses and have a greater understanding of peoples behaviour.
